308 patients scheduled for total knee arthroplasty were randomized to one of two postoperative rehabilitation protocols: one group received motivational interviewing over the first 6 months after surgery as part of an enhanced management protocol in addition to usual care, whereas the second group received usual care alone, consisting of standard inpatient and outpatient physical therapy.
