Synopsis
60 patients, >40 yr old, with basal joint osteoarthritis of the thumb were randomized to receive either intra-articular hylan, corticosteroid, or placebo injection. No major clinically significant differences were apparent between the different treatments. The hylan injection had a persistent effect on pain relief up to week 26 and improved grip strength at this time point.
