Operative vs conservative treatment of traumatic patellar dislocation: results of a prospective randomized controlled clinical trial
Arch Orthop Trauma Surg. 2013 Feb;133(2):209-13. doi: 10.1007/s00402-012-1639-8. Epub 2012 Nov 924 patients with first-time traumatic patella dislocations were randomised to receive either surgical or conservative treatment in order to compare the efficacy of each treatment method. Following assessments over a 24 month period, the results displayed that slightly better Kujala scores and re-dislocation rates were obtained from operative treatment, but the differences between the treatment methods were not significant. The lack of significance was likely due to the study being under powered.
