Three hundred and sixty-three patients undergoing primary total knee replacement were randomized to either receive a multifaceted care [Support and Treatment After Replacement (STAR)] pathway (n=242) or usual care (n=121) for the treatment of chronic pain 12 weeks post-operatively. All patients received usual post-operative care at their hospital, which included a follow-up at 8 weeks. Co-primary outcomes of interest included pain severity and pain interference, measured using the brief pain inventory (BPI) at 12-months follow-up. Secondary outcomes such as the Oxford Knee Score (OKS), Pain Catastrophizing Scale, Pain Solutions Questionnaires (PaSol), Douler Neuropathique 4 (DN-4), SF-12 Short Form Survey, and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) were assessed. At 12-months the BPI severity and interference scores favoured the STAR care pathway. OKS scores were significantly in favour of the STAR care pathway group.
