Asprin vs Low molecular weight heparins in preventing venous thromboembolism .
Risk of venous thromboembolism in thromboprophylaxis between aspirin and low molecular weight heparins after total hip arthroplasty or total knee arthroplasty: Systematic review and meta-analysis.
Rev Esp Cir Ortop Traumatol . 2024 Jul-Aug;68(4):409-421.Sixteen studies including 248,461 patients undergoing Total Knee Arthoplasty or Total Hip Arthoplasty were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing aspirin vs. Low molecular weight Heparins (LMWH) for thromboprophylaxis. Pooled outcomes of interest included the risk of Venous thromboembolism (VTE), deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary thromboembolism (PE), mortality, bleeding events, and surgical wound complications. The results showed no significant differences between aspirin and LMWH in the risk of VTE, DVT, PE, mortality, bleeding, or surgical wound complications. The findings suggest that aspirin is as effective and safe as LMWH for thromboprophylaxis in this context.
