Adduction Manipulation of the Glenohumeral Joint versus Physiotherapy for Atraumatic Rotator Cuff Tears: A Randomized Controlled Trial.
J Clin Med. 2023 Jun 20;12(12):4167Eighty-eight patients with atraumatic rotator cuff tears were randomized to receive adduction manipulation (n=44) or physiotherapy (n=44). Outcomes of interest included range of motion, pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score, Constant Shoulder Score, and glenohumeral adduction angle. The adduction manipulation group demonstrated significantly better glenohumeral adduction angle, greater range of motion and superior short-term function vs. physiotherapy, indicating that it may have clinical benefit over physiotherapy alone for atraumatic rotator cuff tears.
