The impact of including corticosteroid in a periarticular injection for pain control after total knee arthroplasty: a double-blind randomised controlled trial
Bone Joint J. 2016 Feb;98-B(2):194-20077 patients who underwent total knee arthroplasty (TKA) were randomized to periarticular injection with or without corticosteroid. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects and safety of corticosteroid use in the treatment of postoperative pain. Findings indicated that the administration of corticosteroids decreased the magnitude of postoperative pain within the first 24 postoperative hours. No significant differences were reported between groups for the number of complications after one-year follow-up.
