A Randomized, Prospective Study Evaluating the Effect of Patellar Eversion on Outcomes in Total Knee Arthroplasty
120 patients with degenerative joint disease of the knee requiring total knee arthroplasty were randomized to determine the difference in outcome if the patella was everted or laterally retracted during the procedure. Patients underwent TKA with the standard medial parapatellar approach, and were followed for one year post-operatively. Results at one year follow-up indicated that there were no differences between groups in regards to knee pain, range of motion, quadriceps strength and Short Form-36 physical and mental component scores.
