Synopsis
80 patients undergoing primary cemented total hip arthroplasty for primary osteoarthritis were randomized to receive dalteparin injections starting 12 hours before surgery or 6 hours after surgery to compare differences in total blood loss and complications. There was no difference in blood loss when thromboprophylaxis was started before surgery compared to being started after surgery.
