Synopsis

108 patients with a pertrochanteric femoral fracture were randomized to receive treatment with the dynamic hip screw (DHS) or the proximal femoral nail (PFN). At 4 months, a greater proportion of the PFN patients had regained their pre-operative level of walking ability than the DHS patients.
